sales and repair services from the it help center
The IT Help Center offers an expanded array of services to better assist the University with its personal computing needs.
Departmental PurchasesBU Sourcing & Procurement offers web-based catalogs for buying computers, software, and peripherals. This service gives departments a wide range of products and excellent pricing. To begin the purchasing process for your department visit Sourcing and Procurement. Purchases made for the Medical Campus should follow the recommendations outlined on the BUMC Web site. The IT Help Center fills Adobe and Microsoft software orders for University departments, as described at www.bu.edu/tech/help/sales/departmental/. |
Student Purchases
The IT Help Center maintains an Authorized Apple Campus Store and demo center showcasing a selection of Dell, HP, and Lenovo systems recommended by Boston University. These vendors offer educational prices through their BU affiliate sites. You also can purchase Adobe and Microsoft software at educational prices, exclusively for Boston University students. Our sales area will be open according to the hours posted on our website. You can also make purchases at any time through the links provided at www.bu.edu/tech/help/sales/personal/.
- What kind of computer should I buy? The IT Help Center fully supports both Microsoft Windows and the Mac OS, along with the commonly-used software listed at www.bu.edu/tech/help/contact/software/. Most people do use a notebook computer, but the BU community is evenly split across platforms. So it's likely that, unless your academic program has specified otherwise, you should simply purchase the computer you are most comfortable using.
Software support
The IT Help Center provides telephone (617-353-4357) and walk-in support at 533 Commonwealth Ave; providing software support services, free of charge, to the Boston University community. Please note that our list of supported software does not include all software that could possibly be purchased through our affiliated vendor links; simply the popular desktop applications in use on campus. In addition, we generally do not guarantee support for device drivers such as those for Web cameras and printers. However, we will try to help, as much as possible, with any software-related issues you're experiencing.
Hardware repair
The IT Help Center maintains an on-campus, manufacturer authorized hardware repair division. Certified technical repair staff perform warranty repairs, upgrades, and service on most major brands. We can service all of the systems recommended on the IT Help Center vendor affiliate sites. More details are available at www.bu.edu/tech/help/repair.
