Course e-mailing lists
Class mailing lists are available to faculty as described at www.bu.edu/cet/technology/email.html or www.bu.edu/computing/mailinglists/. It is not necessary to develop a class mailing list within your own e-mail program.
Development tools
Tools for building instructional materials are available through IT's Office of Networked Information Services (NIS) as described at www.bu.edu/webcentral/. As detailed at www.bu.edu/webcentral/training/, tutorials are available in Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, and other Web-development topics.
NIS also offers support and services related to instructional tools like Wikis, Courseware (Blackboard/WebCT), forums, polls, site statistics, News/RSS, PHP, MySQL, Apreso, and Webcasting. NIS will also provide information about departmental and individual Web sites.
Information and tutorials on the use of FileMaker Pro database software, PowerPoint, Photoshop, other office productivity software, and networking information is available through this site (the IT Help Center).
Classroom and conference technical support
Classroom media support is available through IT's Media Group, www.bu.edu/media/ which provides classroom equipment, a vast film library, and related services.
Faculty will find instructions for use of a notebook computer in a lecture setting at www.bu.edu/pcsc/desktop/projection/.
BU Connect, BU's Web Conferencing service, is described at http://www.bu.edu/telecom/admin/services/webconference/index.shtml.
Video and Web/Pod casting
Video production services are provided by Boston University Productions. BU Productions works closely with Networked Information Services and the Office of New Media, as needed, to provide distribution of video on VHS or DVD, and through sites like BUniverse or similar.
"Clicker"/student response systems
are available through The Center for Excellence in Teaching.
Professional development
Boston University is a member of NERCOMP which allows you to attend workshops at a member rate, and sometimes at no charge. Check the NERCOMP site at www.nercomp.org for a current schedule of sessions.
